Prior to version 0.6.0, Umbra Noctis were the main antagonists of the game. They were described as a shady organization who rivaled Lux Solis. The organization consisted of several grunts led by 6 captains under the reign of a supreme leader and his son.

Story

Donar Island

The player character would have their first run in with the evil team at Donar Island where they have already invaded Thunderous Cave in a search for the scientist Thomas in order to get their hands on the Potential Reader he created. The player must defeat the grunt blocking the cave in a Coromon battle to get inside. That's where they will find Thomas, who's locked himself in a room to hide from Umbra Noctis.

After defeating the grunt and blowing the Fusebox in the Fuseroom, the player receives the Potential Reader temporarily and must escort Thomas back outside. However, both of them are suddenly surrounded by Umbra Noctis in front of the Buzzlet Lab where Amon demands that Thomas hands over the Potential Reader. Thomas confronts him and claims he hid the device deep in the cave where no one will be able to find it. Amon then snaps and uses a Gauntlet Power on Thomas that seemingly controls his mind to follow the captain's orders to go with Umbra Noctis to make a another Potential Reader as they leave the island.

After completing the Power Tower and acquiring Voltgar's essence, Professor Rigel calls the player back to the Buzzlet Lab to explain they found evidence that Umbra Noctis is using the power of an elusive 7th Titan to brainwash people.
