~ Mr. Mind

Mr. Mind is a non-playable character found on the fourth floor of the Power Tower. He blocks the player from reaching the top and demands that they crack his code to proceed.

Description

Mr. Mind has red hair, and wears a lab coat and glasses. Despite hindering the player's progress to reach the titan Voltgar, he does not show hostility.

Challenge

Note: This section of the game is still undergoing changes.

Sample layout, solution: Orange, Blue, Green, Purple

Mr. Mind's challenge resembles that of the game Mastermind. The objective is to determine the colors and positions of four fuses within 10 tries. In previous versions, after every attempt, a 2x2 dot matrix provides information about the player's guesses. A black dot indicates a correct color and position, a white dot indicates a correct color in the wrong position, and an empty dot indicates a wrong color. This display is planned to be changed in a future release, using a number system instead.

The number of colored fuses the game is played with, depends on the chosen difficulty. On Easy there are 5 colored fuses, on Normal 6, on Hard 7, and on Insane there are 8 colored fuses.

As the player continues guessing, Mr. Mind will attempt to disrupt them by doing various things after turn 2, 4, 6 and 8. The disruption methods are selected in a random order, but the four methods are always the same:

  • Garble up previous guesses for 1 turn. Returns to normal the next turn.
  • Darkens the room for 1 turn, similar to cave conditions.
  • Gives the player 10 seconds to change the fuses. Countdown displays on computer screen in front of Mr. Mind, after which fuse positions cannot be altered and a guess must be made. Countdown freezes on select screen.
  • Gives the player 20 seconds to change the fuses. Similar conditions to previous turn.

If the player fails to guess the combination in 10 guesses, Mr. Mind resets the game with a different solution. If the player succeeds, they can proceed to the fifth floor.
